When I first discussed budget limitations on the ASPW forum, someone suggested I start a GoFundMe page and ask people to help.
My immediate reaction was: absolutely not.
Maybe it’s my upbringing.
Maybe it’s my Dutch heritage.
Or maybe I’m just stubborn and a little too proud.
But when I mentioned the idea to Jasper, he looked at me and said:
“Dad, when you meet someone and they buy you a coffee, you accept that, right? So how is this any different?”
That stopped me in my tracks - you have to give it to kids sometimes ...
After thinking about it for a long time, I realised he was right. So while I’m not asking for help with gear, vehicle upgrades, or equipment, I am happy to accept the equivalent of a coffee — if you like what we’re doing and want to support the journey.
Any support goes directly toward fuel costs.
In Australia, fuel costs around AUD $2 per litre in cities and up to $3 per litre in remote areas. Our Jimny uses roughly:
10 L / 100 km on the road
15 L / 100 km in rough terrain
Averaged out, AUD $3 gets us about 10 km down the track.
To make this tangible and transparent, supporters will be acknowledged on a dedicated page so as example:
$6 = 20 km sponsored
$30 = 100 km
and so on…
This isn’t something we expect — but if you choose to support us, both Jasper and I are genuinely grateful. Every kilometre matters, and knowing someone is quietly backing us along the way means more than you might think.
Thank you for being here.
